1. Many probably heard about the legendary flight of Valery Chkalov under the bridge, but only a few know that this flight first occurred in the city of Bryansk, where the test pilot at that time served.

During this flight and a number of other violations, Chkalov was sent to the Bryansk prison, from where he was freed by the efforts of Voroshilov and transferred to serve in Leningrad. And already in Leningrad, his second flight was made under the bridge, which made hype.

2. As a child, Ksenia Sobchak was a frequent guest of our region: her mother was a native of Bryansk, and in her preschool years, little Ksyusha was under the care of her grandparents.

3. The name of the city of Bryansk came from “Debryansk”, because The ancient city was originally founded in impassable wilds on the banks of the Desna River. Over time, the prefix “de” disappeared and gave the name of the modern city.

4. In the days of the Tatar-Mongol yoke, Bryansk was not captured, because the Tatar-Mongols simply did not find him in impassable wilds. But the inhabitants of the city took part in the fight against the enemies of Ancient Russia. So the famous warrior and monk, a participant in the Battle of Kulikovo, Alexander Peresvet – a native of Bryansk.

5. The highest point of Bryansk is Pokrovskaya Gora. There is also a stele in honor of the 1000th anniversary of the city and a monument to Peresvet.

6. A third of the guns of the war with Napoleon were cast at the Bryansk Arsenal plant, which was built by decree of Catherine II.

7. The history of the name of the part of the city of Karachizh is interesting: in this area there lived a robber nicknamed Chizh, who robbed the merchants and the rich who risked to pass in this place. So they were overtaken by “Kara Chizh”.

8. On the territory of Bryansk is one of the oldest monasteries in Russia, built in the XIII century – the current Holy Assumption Svensky Monastery for men.

9. In Bryansk, the only parking lot in the world of a partisan detachment from the Second World War – Vinogradov’s parking on Round Lake.
